A History of the Poor People’s Campaign in Real Time
The exhibition corresponds to the timeline of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s last monumental social protest. On this site, we look at specific days from the Campaign, hoping to broaden the context of this history.
John, T. Vance, chairman of the Indian Claims Commission, sits on edge of desk 5/31 and listens to demands from a group of Indians who are members of the Poor People's Campaign. The Indians labeled the appointment of Richard W. Yarborough, so of the Senator from Texas, to the Indian Claims Commission, an "insult" to the American Indians.
